Alfried Krupp Award 2025 is open for applications

The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation is once again offering Alfried Krupp Award. The award supports young scientists in the natural and engineering sciences, including medicine, with outstanding qualifications who hold a first professorship at a university in Germany. Candidates should not be older than 38 years. As of this year, the prize is endowed with €1.1 million. For the first time, the increase in prize money is accompanied by the payment of an overhead to the prizewinner’s university. This is the Foundation’s response to current science policy debates and implements a recommendation of the German Council of Science and Humanities for research funding at universities.

The Krupp Foundation has been awarding the Alfried Krupp Prize annually since 1986. It is one of the most highly endowed prizes for young scientists and has so far been awarded to 44 outstanding researchers. The award gives the prizewinners freedom in research and teaching: for a period of five years, they can create an optimal working environment flexibly and independently and advance their scientific work. They can set up laboratories and workstations, attend symposia or specialist congresses and finance scientific staff.

Proposals for candidates can be submitted by individuals, universities and research institutions via the Foundation’s online application portal. Self-applications are excluded. The application deadline is Friday, February 28, 2025.
