Can a person who holds a fixed-term W2/W3 professorship be considered?
Yes.
Can a person be nominated who previously held a junior professorship?
Yes. In accordance with the guidelines, a junior professorship does not count as a first professorship.
Can people holding an S professorship (cooperation between university and non-university research institution) be nominated?
Yes.
Can professors at universities of applied sciences, technology institutes or colleges be nominated?
No, these cannot be considered in the procedure.
Can a person be nominated who has already held a professorship at a foreign university?
In accordance with the guidelines, a professorship abroad cannot be considered.
Can a person be nominated who has already held a W2/W3 professorship over a longer period?
Yes. It is not a prerequisite that the professorship was taken up in the current year, and there is no time limit as to how long ago the first professorship may have been taken up.
The professorship has not yet been taken up. Can the person still be nominated?
Yes. Persons can also be nominated whose appointment procedure is still ongoing. The appointment does not have to have already been made. However, the candidate must have accepted the call by the start of the selection procedure (end of April/beginning of May of the respective year). A copy of the call acceptance letter with relevant details is required.
Can people of any nationality be nominated?
Yes. The candidate must, however, hold a W2/W3 professorship (first professorship; permanent or fixed-term) at a university in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Can the nominated person be older than 38 years?
Yes – for candidates who have taken parental leave and/or care time, this will be appropriately considered when calculating the age.
Can a person be nominated more than once?
There have been several prize winners who were successful following a renewed nomination.
