Information plaque at the Essen Cemetery of Honour commemorates the “Easter Saturday Tragedy” of 1923

The Krupp Historical Archive, together with the Historical Association for the City and Abbey of Essen and the Essen City Council’s “Green and Gruga” parks and gardens department, has erected an information plaque at the Essen Cemetery of Honour commemorating the so-called “Easter Saturday Tragedy” of 1923. On 31 March 1923, Easter Saturday, a clash occurred between French occupation troops and demonstrators on the grounds of the Krupp factory in Essen, resulting in the deaths of 13 demonstrators. Until now, there were no explanations of the events at the graves of the 13 victims at the South-Western Cemetery. The new information plaque is intended to help explain the historical background of the events and commemorate an important part of the history of the city of Essen. The plaque is part of the Inner City Monument Trail, which is maintained by the Historical Society.
