New edition of the “Kleine Reihe Villa Hügel”: The Villa Hügel Park revised and expanded
The book series “Kleine Reihe Villa Hügel”, published by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation, focuses on the history and present of the hill. The volume “Der Park der Villa Hügel” reflects the 150-year history of the hill park and is now available in its third edition. Christa Hasselhorst, author of the book, guides the reader through the history of the park, which is considered a “green treasure trove”.
To this day, the park has undergone numerous transformations and remodelling. Originally, it served as a private retreat for the Krupp family of entrepreneurs as well as a place of social representation. It provided the family with sports and leisure activities, while its woods and fields supplied the owners of Villa Hügel and their visitors with game, fruit and vegetables. For around half a century, the park has presented itself in the style of an English landscape park, in which traces of the past can be discovered by the discerning eye. Richly illustrated with photographs by Peter Gwiazda, the book invites you to trace the historical development of this unique park and also touches on the history of the Krupp entrepreneurial family.
The “Kleine Reihe Villa Hügel” series has also previously published: “The Villa Hügel. An entrepreneur’s residence through the ages”, “The Krupp Historical Archive. Developments, Tasks, Collections” and ’In the House of Krupp. The servants of Villa Hügel”.
The volumes are available in bookshops and on site at Villa Hügel.
