New addition to the Krupp Historical Archive: Donation from the Alfred Wolfrom family
Donation from the Wolfrom family: Mining lamp with handle and inscription HSW, 1985.With over ten kilometers of archive material, the Krupp Historical Archive is one of the largest business archives in Germany. The collection continues to grow and includes not only files, account books, photographs and films from the Krupp family and company, but also documents from private individuals with a connection to Krupp.
The most recent donation from the Wolfrom family is a particularly valuable addition to the archive. Alfred Wolfrom has collected historical securities from important companies, including Krupp, over many decades – both from the Ruhr region and beyond. The donation comprises around 300 securities, supplemented by maps, plans and miner’s lamps. The period covered extends from 1804 to the 1990s and impressively documents the economic history of the region.
At a time when printed shares hardly play a role in the digital banking and stock exchange business, these historical securities offer an important insight into the economic activity of the pre-digital age. They reflect not only confidence in companies and their products, but also the development of corporate identities. Many of these historical securities show iconographic representations that emphasize the corporate design of the respective companies.
We would like to thank the Wolfrom family for this extraordinary donation. The documents will be permanently stored in the archive as a “Donation from the Alfred Wolfrom family”, indexed and made available to the interested public as digital copies.
