Premiere on the hill: ‘Die Sterne’ concert on 2 November at 8 pm
Villa Hügel was already a place of music in the days of the Krupp family: among others, the famous composer Engelbert Humperdinck, who composed the opera Hansel and Gretel, played for the family and their guests. This tradition lives on to this day: the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra regularly performs in the Upper Hall, and in the anniversary year, open-air concerts with the Folkwang Jazz Orchestra and Helge Schneider, among others, enriched the musical programme.
Now the foundation is further expanding the musical spectrum: on 2 November at 8 pm, the Hamburg band ‘Die Sterne’ will be performing at Villa Hügel.
Die Sterne are among the most important representatives of the Hamburg School and have been shaping the German-language indie rock scene since the 1990s. With socially critical lyrics and a mixture of pop, funk and electronic elements, they have achieved cult status. Their new best-of album ‘Grandezza’ combines classics such as ‘Was hat dich bloß so ruiniert’ and ‘Hallo Euphoria’.
Plastic Peaches from Essen will be the support act. They play a mixture of grunge, dream pop and indie. Maja, Alina, Eugen and Daniel find inspiration in bands such as Nirvana, The 1975, Sleater-Kinney and Wet Leg.
The concert is organised in cooperation with the non-profit association Zinnober e.V., which supports alternative music scenes. The event is intended to enable cultural participation for a broad audience.
Advance ticket sales start on 7 October at 12 noon. The concert starts at 8 pm, admission is possible from 7 pm.
