Publications

Publications play a central role in the activities of the Krupp Foundation. On the one hand, the Foundation publishes its own books dealing with the history of the Krupp company and family as well as with the Foundation and its institutions, such as the Alfried Krupp Hospital. On the other hand, it supports and initiates publications in areas that are governed by its statutes. Below, a small selection illustrates the range of subject areas.

Publications regarding the Foundation and regarding the history of the Krupp company and family

The following selection of scientific and essayistic books is related to the Foundation, the company and the Krupp family.

Kleine Reihe Villa Hügel

The Kleine Reihe Villa Hügel (small series on Villa Hügel), which is published by the Krupp Foundation, comprises four volumes, each of which deals with a thematic focus relating to the Villa Hügel. The volume “The Villa Hügel” is available in German and in English and can be purchased in bookshops as well as on site at the Villa Hügel.

Publication series “Essay and Archive”

The “Essay and Archive” series reflects on the history sedimented in the sources of the Krupp Historical Archive, because there is a great deal connected with Krupp – from cultural to economic history, social history of course, political and everyday history, international history. The individual contributions in the series have the liberty to follow the sources closely or to take them as a starting point for observations with a broader horizon. The series is available in bookshops as well as on site at Villa Hügel and will be continued.

Supported publications: Science

In the area of science funding, the Foundation concentrates on its own funding initiatives and institutions such as “The Alfried Krupp Institute for Advanced Study in Greifswald”. The focus is on the promotion of scientific interdisciplinary exchange and of young scientists. In this context, the field of “science” is wide-ranging and includes projects such as the research of Slavic bibles as well as the development of a “Handbuch des Staatsrechts” (Handbook of Constitutional Law) and an approach to the history of scientific institutions such as the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. A selection of these publications is listed here.

Funded publications: Art and Culture

In the area of art and culture, the Foundation supports publications within programmes of its own, such as the “Catalogues for Young Artists” project. In addition, it initiates and supports publications and publication series from external institutions, such as catalogues accompanying exhibitions. A small selection of these publications is listed here.

German Children’s and Youth Sports Report

For many years already, the Krupp Foundation has been supporting a sustainable approach to children’s and youth sport. In 2003, it initiated the Children’s and Youth Sports Report, which outlines the current situation in children’s and youth sports and provides recommendations for action for politicians, associations, clubs and schools. Since then, thematic focus topics such as children’s and youth sports in transition or exercise and sports for children up to the age of twelve have been intensively explored. The Fourth German Children’s and Youth Sports Report, which was published in October 2020, focuses on the topics of performance, health and society. The volumes are available in bookshops.

Series: Publications of the Krupp Reimers Research Group

The colloquium series, carried out in cooperation with the Krupp Foundation and the Werner Reimers Foundation, aims to explore central topics of globalised society from a historical and contemporary perspective in interdisciplinary dialogue and to make the results accessible to a wider audience in the form of publications.
