FAQ

Is it necessary to be enrolled for one of the subjects listed here?
Applicants do not necessarily have to be enrolled in the subject for which they are applying. It is sufficient if the topic of the dissertation can be assigned to one of the specified departments. We recommend taking a look at the relevant department websites at Stanford to get an impression of the range of topics covered in each case.

May I apply with a topic on school didactics in the specified subjects?
Applications for this specialisation are not possible.

May I apply for the scholarship if I am not a German citizen and have obtained my master’s
degree outside Germany, but have already had various academic contacts (e.g.
Erasmus scholarship) with a German university?
That is not possible.

May I postpone the start of the scholarship?
The start of the study visit to Stanford is in the first half of January 2025 and will be coordinated individually with the supervisor there. A further postponement to the following months is not possible. Note: With a J-1 visa, you can enter the USA up to 30 days before the start of the visa and stay in the USA for up to 30 days after the visa expires.

May I alsoapply to other foundations for additional funding opportunities for the period
of my stay?
Scholarship holders may also receive funding from other sources.
